CLIMATE
The climate of Etna can vary distinctly and change rapidly in short time periods, which is usually the case in mountainous areas. During our volcano excursion we find ourselves at the altitude of just over 100m above sea level, when at the gorge of Alcantara, and as high as 2000m in Valle del Bove. It is thus clear that temperature can change by even ten degrees within one day. If, in permitting weather, You can enjoy lava watching also after sunset, keep in mind that temperature fluctuation can be even greater. To give You an idea of possible temperature range, it’s enough to say that in january at the altitude of about 2000m the temperature falls below zero while the high does not exceed 8-10 degrees. On the other hand maximum summer temperature, in august, at the same altitude, reaches up to 30 degrees but could also fall down to as low as 15 degrees.
The moderation of its climate makes Catania a holiday destination throughout the year. Mild climate of maritime Mediterranean type with temperate winters and hot dry summers brings about a variety of natural backgrounds.
