Etna Experience organizes Etna tour, excursions, full and half day trips to enjoy the best visit, trekking and guided tours to Mount Etna Volcano

That’s why you can visit Etna all year round

One of the most frequent questions we are asked when booking one of our tours on Mount Etna is about the climate and temperature. How many degrees will there be? Will it be hotter or colder than in the centre of Catania? How do you have to equip yourself? Here are the answers to all your questions!

The climate of the volcano

if we do a research we find that “in the highest parts of the volcano the climate is alpine”: the temperatures in summer are cold and are around 6°-7°, while in winter they go down to -12° and there is snow that resists, at higher altitudes, even until the beginning of summer.
Around 2000 m in winter, temperatures rise up to 8°-10° and in summer they vary between 15° and 30°.

The climate on Etna varies not only from one season to another, but also during the same day: the temperature range for example is higher after sunset, and is what you can see when you stop to admire (when present) a volcanic eruption during the evening hours, perhaps participating in our Mt. Etna Sunset Tour.
Moreover, during the winter months, usually from December to March, the volcano is covered with snow; this year the snow has already made its “appearance” in November, and we are obviously equipped to live our experience on Etna despite its presence. Etna Experience organizes its Mt. Etna Winter Tour providing participants with the right equipment: snowshoes and sticks to walk easily on the snow. We also recommend wearing trekking shoes and jackets: if you do not have them, please let us know at the time of booking and we will be happy to provide them! Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen to avoid sunburn!
Obviously you should not forget how important safety is: never venture into little-known routes, always rely on experienced staff, able to assess the weather conditions and decide whether or not to face a trek on Etna. Remember: safety first of all!

The climate of Catania

Catania is located at the foot of the volcano Etna and the climate is influenced by both the mountains and the sea: for this reason it enjoys a temperate climate with mild winters and hot summers, and thanks to this mild climate you can visit it all year round.
