On April 27th the first train of the project called “Historical trains of taste” will depart, carried out by the Department of Tourism of the Region Sicily in collaboration with the FS Foundation and Slow Food Sicily, which involves 87 municipalities.
The first stage of this itinerary will be Syracuse. Dedicated to the “sweets of the holidays” will stop in Noto, isola delle Correnti, Oasis of Vendicari and Ispica. It will focus its attention on the gastronomjic traditions of the territory of Syracuse, focusing on those basic materials that are difficult to find elsewhere.
“The train of Sfincione and fruit in winter” will be the last stop in Palermo, Bagheria and Cefalù, in the middle of of other unmissable stops that touch the location of important Sicilian events such as Chocomodica and Salina Island Slow.
The main objective of the project is to “tell the story of Sicily” through its most evocative flavours and places. It is aimed at more and more aware and sensitive tourists who can directly know places and methods of production as well as cultures and traditions that are getting lost.
Important new feature of the 2019 edition are the itineraries dedicated to islands such as Mozia, Favignana, Lipari, Salina: the “waterways” that allow you to discover true nature of Sicily as an “Island between the Islands“.
The Alcantara Valley will also be part of the 52 itineraries scheduled: the municipalities involved are Francavilla di Sicilia, Castiglione di Sicilia, Motta Camastra with its Alcantara Gorges, Randazzo and Giardini Naxos.
