The most famous monument in Taormina that needs no introduction is definitely the Greek Theatre. It is a magnificent architectural work that boasts perfect acoustics and now hosts concerts and cultural events. If you want to admire a more unique and rare panorama we suggest you to to look out from Taormina’s most famous square Piazza IX Aprile: a panoramic terrace that offers a breathtaking view of the sea and Mount Etna. The square is also overlooked by the church of St. Augustine and the Clock tower.
Want to go shopping? Which place is more suitable than Corso Umberto? The main street of Taormina full of souvenir shops, bars and fashion stores dedicated to the king od Italy Umberto I of Savoy and characterized by many picturesque streets. Along the street there are three squares among which stands the Piazza Duomo with the cathedral dedicated to St. Nicholas: a church built around 1400 whose interior is a Latin cross with three naves and three apses. In front of the Duomo is the seventeenth-century fountain that boasts the symbol of Taormina in the center.
Before leaving it is impossible not to stop and admire the Isola Bella. An island rich in vegetation joined to to the mainland by a thin layer of sand. Recognized as an asset of historical and artistic interest today it is a summer destination for thousand of tourists from all over the world.
